Building that Special Memory for your Flower Girl

The world is a big magical place to a 7 year old little girl. Every event is a new special experience to a wide eyed little person. Nothing is more magical than a wedding ceremony where she can dress like a fairy tale princess and take a part of the spotlight. Its a land mark event for a little girl and a memory she will carry well into adulthood. It is important to make sure the flower girl is well pampered and taken care of.

The anticipation of having all eyes on you even for a moment may make the butterflies in her stomach flutter. Make sure she feels comfortable and anxiety is quelled. Stage fright might creep up unexpectedly. Don't force her down the aisle alone if she comes down with unexpected stage fright. It won't hurt one bit if a bridesmaid or maid of honor takes her by the hand and walks down the aisle together. Flexibility is a must with children. Have her practice walking down the aisle a few times before the ceremony. Maybe walk around the church so it a comfortable setting. Make sure she knows where you will be sitting so she can look to you for encouragement and comfort.

Include her in the shopping experience. Even if her flower girl dress has been pre selected it doesn't hurt to sit down with a catalog and browse the colors and designs to get her excited about her important roll. You can even take her out to try on dresses to make her feel like she is preparing for her big day as a flower girl. Make sure the dress fits properly. First, the dress shouldn't be too long. Make sure she isn't stepping on the trim. Tipping in front of an audience isn't a memory she wants. It is important that the dress is age appropriate for the girl. This includes any veils and shoes. Many formal shoes have a bit of a heel. Make sure she can walk in her shoes. Heels can be helpful if the dress is a bit long. Let her wear the dress before the ceremony to give her time to feel comfortable and pretty.

It is important to take some time to do her hair and maybe a little face powder. Make-up may or may not be appropriate depending on her age, but you can powder her nose and put a little lip balm on to make her feel like a big girl in the make up chair. Its very satisfying for a little girl to feel just as important as the bridesmaids.

Traditionally, the flower girl receives a gift. A gift is usually given by the bride as a thank you and a token to acknowledge her importance. Gifts should be practical, pretty and memorable. A bracelet, necklace, a purse, or snow globe are perfect memory gifts for a princess flower girl. Just keep in mind, its her day too.
